Buying all of your individual vitamins can get expensive. Which is why vegan multivitamins are so good! But with so many options on the market, which is the best vegan multivitamin for you? Find out here!

Nutrition is complicated and it isn’t made any simpler by the thousands of supplement companies advertising their ‘ultimate health fix supplements’ that promise to turn you into a superhero.

We can be made to think that we need to take about a million and one different supplements to ensure we stay alive. Especially when you factor in your vegan diet. But this just isn’t the case. Instead, we should start by talking to an actual doctor and getting our blood examined. They’ll be able to tell you what you actually need.

For the most part, when vegans get their results back they’ll be low in Vitamin B12 and Iodine. Some may struggle to get enough iron, depending on the foods they eat day to day (see what nutrients vegans need). And most people in the UK, vegan or not, will struggle to get enough D3.

However, buying individual vitamins can get quite expensive. So, that’s where a vegan multivitamin comes in – the ultimate nutritional insurance policy. It comes with all the necessary vitamins for a vegan diet, all in one handy supplement. Meaning you can say goodbye to the hundreds of plastic pill pots you’ve got hanging about in your bathroom cabinet.

But with so many vegan multivitamins on the market, how do you know which one is right for you? Fear not, I’ve got you covered with a comprehensive guide to the best vegan multivitamins available.

Why trust my guide on vegan multivitamins? I’ve been taking vegan multivitamins since I went vegan back in 2015 and I have tried a lot of them! During this time I’ve been able to really test each one out and take note of their benefits and their downfalls if any. All of the vegan multivitamins I mention in this guide are ones that I recommend from my own positive experiences of them.

My top picks

Should vegans take a multivitamin?

If you follow a really strict meal plan and know the exact vitamins and nutrients you are consuming then a multivitamin may not be needed. But it is recommended to take a multivitamin if you struggle to eat a varied diet, or simply as a precautionary measure because it can be tricky to get enough vitamin B12 and omega-3 fatty acids from plant-based food sources.

Do multivitamins have enough B12 for vegans?

This fully depends on the brand and formulation of the multivitamin. You’ll be hard pushed to find a vegan multivitamin that doesn’t include enough vitamin B12 since it is very widely known that B12 can be hard to obtain from a vegan diet. On the flip side, many non-vegan multivitamins may not have enough to meet the recommended daily intake.

All of the vegan multivitamins I’ve covered in this blog contain at least the minimum daily recommended intake of B12, so you can choose any of these! Or you can check out these vegan B12 supplements.

A bottle of Ritual multivitamins - one of the best vegan multivitamins

3. Ritual

Includes: Vitamins B12, D, K2, and E, Omega-3 DHA, Folate, Iron, Boron, Magnesium
Packaging: Recyclable plastic pot
Form: Capsule
Serving: 2 capsules a day
How much: 60 capsules (1 month supply) for £30

Ritual is a very unique and modern vegan supplement brand. They have adopted a very transparent approach to their vitamins, helping to build trust with their customers. So, you can see exactly where the ingredients that are going into your vitamin come from. They also share all of the scientific studies that back their ingredients.

On top of this, they’ve been very clever with their vegan multivitamin. Thanks to their patented beadlet in oil technology they have been able to get omega-3 into the capsule alongside the usual nutrients you’d expect in a vegan multivitamin. Normally you’d have to buy a separate vegan omega-3 supplement, but this allows you to cut costs and buy it all in one handy supplement. Pretty nifty, right?

You may be thinking that it is a little pricey, but it is cheaper than buying a vegan multivitamin and a separate vegan omega-3 supplement every month!

I like how they have different versions of their vegan multivitamin to suit different people of different ages. I’ve used their Essential for women 18+ and have found it digests well and the omega-3 has definitely been helping with my eye health and my hair also! Find out more on my Ritual review.

If there is one place you can expect to get a high-quality vegan multivitamin from it is The Vegan Society. They are the oldest vegan organisation in the world, founded in 1944. They have since gone on to be one of the largest vegan educational charities.

They produced their VEG1 vegan multivitamin many years ago and it was the first one I took when I went vegan. Back then it was packaged inside a plastic pot but they’ve recently changed this to an aluminium tin, which is really easy to recycle!

I like that they include only the main nutrients and vitamins necessary for a vegan diet. This means you can take this alongside a really healthy plant-based diet and feel safe in the knowledge that everything is covered, and that you aren’t taking more than you need. This is probably what also helps to keep the cost down, it is the most affordable good quality vegan multivitamin on the market!
