Pros

Cons

Now that I have managed to draw you into a review about cleaning products, fun I know, let’s get into the nitty gritty about Homethings and the reasons I am now using their products full-time as part of my cleaning routine at home.

All of the Homethings cleaning products are certified vegan

I’m sure that many people will agree with me that when looking for eco-friendly products that you would also expect them to be vegan-friendly. The two seem to go hand in hand. Yet this really isn’t always the case. Anyone remember the Ecover scandal, when it was found out that they actually tested on water fleas? I do, and I remember really struggling to trust ‘vegan-friendly’ eco cleaning brands after that.

So I was really happy to find out that Homethings have been certified vegan by The Vegan Society, the very organisation that campaigned against Ecover.

So you can rest easy knowing that your cleaning cupboard is going to be stocked up with eco-friendly refillable products that are also 100% vegan, and proud of it.

Their cleaning bottles are refillable

Homethings recognised that the majority of cleaning products that you can buy today are made up of mostly water. And shipping water requires a LOT of plastic. It may seem obvious now that this kind of offering exists, but I think they were extremely clever to come up with the idea of shipping their cleaning products without the water.

By leaving out the water from their products, they can deliver you one bottle to be reused time and time again and send tablet refills packaged in compostable material that can be mixed in with water from your tap.

They use recycled plastic bottles which can be refilled over and over again.

Just think about how much plastic you’ll be avoiding just by cutting out the use of single-use plastic cleaning products. Amazing, right?

They have a wide range of cleaning products

Something I have noticed about most of the competitors of Homethings is that they only currently supply a few cleaning products. Fortunately, Homethings have a really good range of cleaning products that will enable you to keep the whole house squeaky clean.

Here is a list of their main refillable vegan-certified cleaning product range:

My thoughts on the product

If it isn’t already glaringly obvious, I love these vegan refillable cleaning products by Homethings. I never thought I’d be saying that about cleaning products, but I really do. I love that I’ve been able to cut out all the single-use plastic in my cleaning cupboard, I love that it is all certified vegan, I love the amusing copy plastered across their packaging, and I especially love that all of it works really well. My house and kitchen are squeaky clean and they smell great!

Areas of improvement

Okay, it is time to address the elephant in the room. Some of their products still do use plastic, yes. For instance, they do sell reusable plastic spray bottles and the spray triggers are made from plastic.

However, their plastic spray bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic and has been manufactured to last for a very long time. When you think of the alternative, single-use plastic cleaning products, there really is a lot less plastic that will be wasted when using Homethings in the long-run.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the trigger it looks like they really don’t have many other options than plastic, at the moment. I get the impression that companies like Homethings will always try to make improvements when and where they can.

Review conclusion

Personally, I am really excited to see just how much single-use plastic I save from going to waste. I already feel really happy knowing that the cleaning products that I am using around the home are fully vegan and eco-friendly. So the long-term wins will just add to this.

I really urge you to give Homethings a go. They have a range of starter packs and bundles that will help you to begin your eco-friendly cleaning product adventure. And I am certain you won’t look back when you realise just how clean both your home and conscience can be.
