This was a brand I simply had to try, and I’m not at all ashamed to admit that I got pretty excited when they offered to send me a box of all their cleaning products to create this Homethings review. They are fully vegan-certified and eco-friendly to boot, a combination you’ll be hard-pressed to find in any of the cleaning products sitting on your supermarket shelves.
Now I am going to tell you why Homethings is going to excite you too (I promise), so really do make sure to read on. This vegan, eco-friendly cleaning brand is a real game-changer that will enable you to bring your cleaning routine in line with your morals and ethics.

Homethings is an eco-friendly cleaning brand. The founders started the business after discovering that water makes up 95% of the ingredients in a cleaning spray. Considering how these kinds of cleaning sprays are typically sold in single-use plastic, a lot of energy is being wasted to create, distribute, and sell these.
So, they built a refillable cleaning product line without the water – simply add the water at home. Plus, their bottles, tabs and powders are all packaged inside eco-friendly packaging – so no single-use plastic here!

There truly is a great variety of products on offer, meaning you can kit out most of your home’s cleaning supplies with Homethings. The only thing that is lacking variety is the scents you can buy for each product, but that being said, the scents are amazing, and I wouldn’t want to change them!
My experience with Homethings
Now that I have managed to draw you into one of the most thorough Homethings reviews, fun I know, let’s get into the nitty-gritty about the brand and the reasons I am now using their products full-time as part of my cleaning routine at home.
How eco-friendly is it?
Homethings is probably one of the most eco-friendly cleaning brands that exists today. Their product range is single-use and plastic-free. For example, they sell laundry pods and dishwasher tabs that come delivered in cardboard boxes and reusable cleaning sprays that you can refill with tablets and tap water.
The refillable spray bottles and washing-up liquid bottles are made from aluminium, which keeps them lightweight, easy to clean, and also super eco-friendly!
The only plastic I’ve found is on the spray bottle trigger and the washing-up liquid pump. But these seem quite hard-wearing and should last quite some time.
Like Who Gives a Crap, they individually wrap all their toilet roll, which are made from unbleached bamboo. This looks great on your shelves, but honestly, I’d prefer it without the extra paper packaging! However, at least the bamboo is unbleached (removing a completely unnecessary step in the production of their toilet roll!)
On top of the packaging and materials used to create the products, the ingredients are also clean and vegan-friendly. Meaning no unnecessary environmental damage from the use of animal products.
In fact, Homethings has been certified vegan by The Vegan Society. So you can rest easy knowing that your cleaning cupboard is going to be stocked up with eco-friendly refillable products that are also 100% vegan, and proud of it.
How effective are the products?
Homethings is more than just an eco-friendly cleaning brand. I also really enjoy using their products. Mostly because they are all really effective at cleaning.
Here are my thoughts on the effectiveness of each Homethings product I’ve used:
- Washing up liquid: Great smell, good foam, and cleans food off plates really easily.
- Multi-purpose spray: Leaves a lovely scent, wipes easily with no residue left behind.
- Laundry sheets: A very convenient product (I prefer it to using liquid), smells great and is effective at cleaning clothes. Everything smells fresh when washed.
- Floor tabs: Easy to use and great scent, leaves the home smelling beautiful.
- Bamboo loo roll: Soft and great on sensitive skin, and the sheets are the perfect thickness, so they hold up really well.
- Bamboo scrubber: A high-quality scrubber which gets food off dishes easily and can be washed so that it lasts longer!
On top of this, all their products smell amazing. For example, the room always smells lovely after using the multi-purpose spray, and my clothes are so fresh after a wash.
Are they affordable?
When it comes to eco-friendly cleaning products, Homethings is pretty great value! Eco brands are almost always pricier than conventional cleaners, and Homethings’ pricing is very much in line with what you’d expect from other sustainable, refill-focused companies.
Their refills (from around £7 for cleaning sprays or floor pods) are comparable to most eco alternatives, where refills often sit between £6 and £10. Their laundry sheets (from £9) and dishwasher tablets (from £10) also fit comfortably within the usual eco price bracket. Even their bamboo loo roll (from £25) is similar to what you’d pay with the more well-known plastic-free bathroom brands.
The starter bundle (from £39.83) might look like a big outlay at first, but it includes pretty much everything you need to overhaul your cleaning cupboard. Other eco companies charge similar prices for multi-product bundles, and many offer far fewer items.
Yes, if you compare Homethings to the cheapest supermarket brands, it will cost a bit more, but that’s true for almost every eco product out there. The real comparison is with other sustainable brands, and in that space, Homethings is well-priced, good value, more eco-friendly, and often offers more variety.
Homethings review verdict
If it isn’t already glaringly obvious, I love these refillable cleaning products by Homethings. I never thought I’d be saying that about cleaning products, but I really do.
I love that I’ve been able to cut out all the single-use plastic in my cleaning cupboard, I love that it is all certified vegan, I love the amusing copy plastered across their packaging, and I especially love that all of it works really well. My house and kitchen are squeaky clean, and they smell great!
Personally, I am really excited to see just how much single-use plastic I will stop from going into the bin. I already feel really happy knowing that the cleaning products that I am using around the home are fully vegan and eco-friendly. So the long-term wins will just add to this.
